Holika Holika: Limited edition Dodo Cat Lip Tint Bar Review

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

I have a new lip review today! Another bad influence purchase courtesy of Instagram. One of the most impulsive purchases I have made in a while. I saw it on Instagram, went on eBay, bought it and then went to bed. Exactly in that order, haha.

I've actually wanted a Holika Holika lipstick for the longest time. It's just the shades they offer have never appealed to me.

But I love it for the packaging. It is cute and the lipstick is in the shape of a heart! A HEART! That and there are cats on it as well. I need it in my life.

This is a limited edition collaboration with Audrey Jeanne: Dodo Cat.

They also have a foam cleanser that is not pictured above.

I've seen lip tints becoming more popular. A lot of Korean brands have been coming out with their own dupes of the Dior Addict Lip Glow.

I've wanted to buy a Holika Holika lipstick for a while AND I've wanted to try a dupe of the Dior lip glow. So this is killing two birds with one stone!

Taken from Holika Holika:
Heart-shaped get tint bar to complete voluptuous, glossy lips

Packaging
I don't think I need to go into anymore detail as I already have. It's adorable. I'm not usually into pink themed items, but I have to admit I like this. The packaging is slightly cheap, as the pictures on the sides are not stamped on. It's actually just a sticker.

The lip tint is pretty light and I keep in my bag for touch ups throughout the day.

Product
I haven't been to a Holika Holika store in a while, so I forgot the lipstick is actually quite small. I didn't see that it was 3.6g. But I don't mind since I didn't pay too much for it. What matters is the quality of the product.

The heart shape from the pointed tip helps with the cupids bow, but aside from that the shape doesn't really help or improve the application.

The tint becomes more prominent with more coats you add on. On my lips above, it's slightly drowned out by the light, but that is with one light coat. Anymore then my lips look way too pink. It's not so much a fuscia pink and more of a bubble gum pink.

Like the product advertises, it does have a glossy finish. It does a decent job in providing moisture for the lips, but unless you want bright pink lips, I basically use this product for the tint.

It's not a lip stain, so the longevity is the same as any other lipstick. After food and drinks reapplication is necessary.

Also, if you're sensitive to strong scents, this may not be for you. It's very artificially scented. At first I quite liked it as it reminded me of fruit candies. But the more I smell it the more it now reminds me of artificial fruit air fresheners. It smells like a fruity Glade plug-in. It doesn't appeal to me anymore.

Overall thoughts
To be honest, since purchasing this product, I've only used it a couple times. I haven't made a dent into the lip tint at all.

When my lips are chapped, I usually apply a few coats of whatever lip balm I have. If I were to use this, the colour will add to my already pigmented lips and look way too pink.

It's cute and I'm happy I purchased it to try, but I will not repurchase this in the future.

I purchased this on eBay for under $10 CAD with free shipping.

Have you tried lip tints like this before? What's your favourite lip tint?

  1. I was tempted to buy this one, too, but when I saw that it is a lip Balm I didn't...the right choice, because I wouldn't have used it either. Still I want to try one of the heart shaped lipsticks from Holika Holika....they are sooo pretty!

    1. Yeah, that's my main reason for purchasing this lip balm, because of the heart shape. I could have definitely done without it, but it's good to have during emergencies.

  2. I love the packaging of this! And the subtle colour here appeals. Can definitely see why this was an instagram - cart - door purchase ;)

    1. The colour is definitely really nice. The colour is more vibrant the more layers you apply.
