MAMO Botanics - Oro De Cacay Facial Oil Review

As much as I enjoy the Holiday season (mainly the atmosphere not so much for the stress of buying gifts) the cold weather almost makes my skin react badly. Every year my eczema flairs up which is always less than ideal.

Facial oils are always my go to once the weather gets colder. Even though my t-zone area is still oily, my cheeks become really dry. Doesn't matter how much or how thick the moisturizer I apply, my face still becomes dry and pulled.

MAMO Botanics reached out to me back in October and offered to send me their facial oil called, 'Oro de Cacay' to try. The oil is made from cacay nuts which are grown and native to the Colombian Amazon rainforest. What I especially like about MAMO is that they work together with the farmers in Colombia.

Taken from their website:
MAMO works with indigenous farmers that wild harvest tree-based ingredients to conserve Amazon forests and indigenous traditions. 15% of MAMO's profits are invested in biodiversity conservation [...] Environmentally sustainable sourcing that promotes reforestation. Generations incomes for small and indigenous Colombina farmers
I love Josie Maran's Argan Oil as much as the next person. But if you're looking for a good facial oil for the winter that also gives back to the community they source their ingredients from, MAMO Botanics is worth checking out.

Product advertisement from their website:
This Revolutionary Amazonian Facial Oil glides on like silk and deeply absorbs to hydrate, balance and brighten your skin [...] Ultra rich in Amazonian nutrients like vitamin E, natural retino and linoleic acid [...] Nourishes skin and promotes the production of collagen [...] Skin will appear firmer and you will notice a visible reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and improved skin tone and texture
Linoleic acid is a type of fatty acid that is found in vegetable oils, nuts and animal products. It helps with skin regeneration and also good for those who suffer from acne.

Packaging

I quite like the packaging. Since it's made of glass, it's well weighted and feels luxurious. It also is frosted glass. The frosted glass makes it so that it is not as much of a fingerprint magnet.

It was mailed to me in a large box, so it's definitely well packaged. But when I was opening it, because it was kept on its side the oil did leak out of the cap. Not that big of a deal, it didn't make a huge mess. But something to be aware of when you receive it. Don't leave the product laying on its side.

Product

As it is made from cacay nuts, it does smell faintly of nuts. To me, it smells more like peanuts. Luckily, the scent isn't too strong and doesn't linger.

I always find a pea sized amount is always enough for my face. Though with oils, I'm careful not to apply it on my nose as that's the area I get the most oily.

When I got back to Toronto from my vacation in October, I immediately began to use this. Usually around this time with the weather change, my skin reacts badly. If I don't use oils and try to rely on heavy creams, my skin still becomes incredibly dry and it even begins to peel. But once I transitioned to facial oils, my skin has been well moisturized and hasn't peeled once.

What I like about this oil is that it doesn't leave the skin feeling greasy. It's almost like a dry oil that the skin absorbs really quickly. I never have to worry about leaving fingerprints on everything. The oil is also really light weight so it doesn't feel heavy and it doesn't clog up the pores.

MAMO does boast a lot of benefits for this facial oil. I don't have wrinkles so it's difficult to tell if it's made any difference. My skin tone and texture are pretty good as well. So I can't say that it made any difference for that, simply because I don't have any of those issues. But my skin was definitely more hydrated and looks brighter as well. I use this mainly as a night serum. I do still put a cream on top of this and I find that it's the perfect combination for my skin. My skin has been behaving I haven't had any issues with excess oils on my face.

Overall thoughts

My skin has been liking this facial oil. I never use facial oils in the summer as they're too heavy for my skin, but in the winter they're perfect. This one is no different. My skin is well hydrated, I never have to worry about my cheeks being too dry. It's quite a nice product.

You're not going to notice immediate results with their claims of reduction of fine lines, etc. But I'm ok with that. It's nice to be using products for anti-aging, but I'm mainly using this for its hydrating properties-which I'm quite happy with.

There are plenty of oils out there to try. But if you want a high quality natural product that gives back to the community it sources its ingredients from, why not give Oro De Cacay a try?

They're available through their website or on Amazon for $54.99 CAD. But if you order from their website, they are offering 10% off your first purchase.
